HELLFIRE

HELLFIRE

The Reason Hell should be preached and studied Is because The verse Jesus Christ quoted more than any other verse in the old testament was a verse about hell.

Isaiah 66:24  And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

Jesus quoted this verse three times in the same chapter. You can read it in Mark 9:44,46, and 48

HE SAYS...

Mark 9:44  Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
Mark 9:46  Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
Mark 9:48  Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Notice Jesus said THEIR worm dieth not. Not THE worm but THEIR worm dieth not. The bible teaches that christians will one day have a body like Jesus Christ so lost people may have a body like satan who is called a red dragon in Revelation 12:3.

Taking a closer look at Isaiah 66:24 you can see the time period in vs 22.
Isaiah 66:22  For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

"The new heavens and new earth" of Isaiah 66:22 lets us know this is in the future. The men who transgressed are lost men after the great white throne judgment and it says "THEIR" worm shall not die.  They have a body like their father. This is why Isaiah calls it an "abhorring unto all flesh."

The word carcase is not always a "dead" body in the bible. If carcase is only "dead" bodies than Deuteronomy 14:8 and Ezekiel 6:5 wouldn't specifically say the words "dead carcase." In Isaiah 66:24 it just says.... they "looked upon the carcases of the men."

There are 162 references to hell in the new testament alone and 70 of them came straight from Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ mentioned hell this much, than we should preach and teach hell.

SO WHERE IS HELL?

HELL IS INSIDE THE EARTH

Matthew 12:40
"For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

Look what Jonah said in...

Jonah_2:2  And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD,and he heard me; out of the belly of HELL cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

Ezekiel 32:27 talks about people "which are gone DOWN to hell." Also in the book of Numbers it talks about people going down ALIVE into the pit.

Numbers 16:32  And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
Numbers 16:33  They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

So hell is a bottomless pit inside the earth.

Revelation 9:2
And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun
and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

Hell is all sides without a bottom

Isaiah_14:15
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

When a man dies in his sins..Hell opens its mouth and swallows him. He moves to meet the sinner as he dies.

Isaiah 14:9
"Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming:

When the sinner goes to hell it hits him as a suprise. In Psalms 55:15 it talks about men going down QUICK into hell...

Psalms_55:15  Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

God lets us know that Hell is as deep as the third heaven is high

Job_11:8  It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

The bible hints at their being different levels of hell.

Deuteronomy_32:22  For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell

Psalms_86:13  For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.

In Proverbs it calls hell a chamber of death

Proverbs_7:27  Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

We don't even realize that right know below our feet there is millions and millions of people burning.

Proverbs_15:24  The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

Hell is beneath your feet. It is a bottomless pit that every lost sinner will fall into when he dies without Jesus Christ.

Ezekiel_31:16  I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit:

In Amos 9:2 it even talks about someone digging down into hell. Which is what a lot of sinners are doing by rejecting the gospel every time they hear it.

Amos_9:2  Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down:

Old testament saints did not go to the third heaven when they died. They went to Abraham's Bosom(which is also called paradise). The bible does teach this place was right next to hell in the heart of the earth. After Jesus died on the cross He took the old testament saints up to the third heaven. The old testament saint's salvation wasn't complete until Jesus died on the cross.

1 Peter 4:6
For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged
according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

Ephesians 4:8-9
"Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men."
(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

When Jesus went into the lower parts of the earth He wasn't suffering in the fires of hell for our sins. Our sins are paid for by His blood.

Ephesians_1:7
 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Another reason we know that Abraham's bosom was right next to hell in the heart of the earth was because The rich man SAW Abraham and Lazarus in his bosom. If Abraham and Lazarus were in the third heaven than how could the rich man see them?

Luke 16:23
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

When a christian dies his soul goes to the third heaven where God is. This is because Jesus Christ's blood washed away our sins. The old testament saints didn't go to the third heaven because their animal sacrifices only covered their sins.

Hebrews_10:4
For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

The world thinks that hell is a party but the bible says it is pain, trouble, and sorrow.

Psalms_116:3  The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.

HELL ISN'T JUST THE GRAVE

Notice that hell isn't just going to the GRAVE. The rich man was buried in his grave and then it says he lifted up his eyes in hell.

Luke 16:22-23
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died
and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

Hell isn't just the grave because Jesus talked about certain people who would be cast into a furance of fire.

Matthew_13:42  And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

If hell is just the grave than why does it say to "fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body IN HELL."

Matthew_10:28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy
both soul and body in hell.

If hell is just "the grave" than why did Jesus say it would be better for thee to "enter into life maimed" than to go into hell. An unsaved sinner doesn't just go to the grave and rest in peace. He burns and screams in torment.

Mark_9:43  And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

A man goes to hell and stays there until the Great White Throne Judgment. This doesn't mean hell isn't forever because death and HELL are cast into the lake of fire that will burn for eternity.

Revelation 20:14-15
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the
book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

The bible makes it clear that it is everlasting torment

everlasting fire ’ Matthew 18:8, 25:41
everlasting punishment ’ Matthew 25:46
everlasting chains ’ Jude 1:6
eternal damnation ’ Mark 3:29
eternal judgment ’ Hebrews 6:2
eternal fire ’ Jude 1:7
unquenchable fire ’ Matthew 3:12
the fire that never shall be quenched ’ Mark 9:43, 44, 45, 46, 48
fire unquenchable ’ Luke 3:17
mist of darkness is reserved for ever ’ 2 Peter 2:17
the blackness of darkness for ever ’ Jude 1:13

Since your soul isn't physical it doesn't burn up and cease to exist.

Matthew_25:46  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Daniel_12:2  And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Revelation_14:11  And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night,

MATTHEW 23:14,  MARK 12:40, AND LUKE 20:47 talk about people receiving a greater damnation. some people in hell will be in worse punishment than others in hell.

SO WHO GOES TO HELL

The angels that sinned went to hell.

2 Peter 2:4  For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

Matthew 25:41  Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

The majority of people will go to hell

Matthew_7:13  Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Psalms_9:17  The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God

Everyone who trusts their own righteousness instead of Christ's righteousness will go to hell.

Romans_10:3  For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Isaiah_64:6  But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Romans_3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

The only way out of hell is to come to Jesus Christ as a guilty sinner.

Romans 3:23 says "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

We are sinners but Jesus Christ paid our sin debt.

1 Corinthians_15:3  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1 Corinthians_15:4  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the
 scriptures:

It is the blood of Jesus Christ that will wash your sins away

Colossians_1:14  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Acts 16:31 says believe on the lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved

Romans 10:13 says for whosoever shall call upon the name of the lord shall be saved

John 3:16 says for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

If you come to Jesus as a guilty sinner and believe ON Jesus Christ as your savior than you can be saved and have eternal life. Jesus is the only way out of hellfire

Even with so many people dropping into hell every second....

Proverbs 27:20  Hell and destruction are never full;

This should make us get a burden for lost people. The rich man in hell had more of a burden for the lost people than most christians do.

The rich man says...

Luke 16:27-28 I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment
